For Patients

New Patient Referrals

A written referral from a general practitioner or specialist is required for all new appointments. A valid current referral is necessary for you to be able to claim your Medicare rebate.

You will need a current referral when you attend for your consultation. Our practice may contact you prior to your appointment to ensure you have the correct referral.

Please bring with you any relevant test results and a list of your current medications.

Day Ward and Inpatient treatment

As long as you hold a current referral, any hospital treatments you receive will be charged directly to your private health insurance. Please check with your insurance provider regarding any out-of-pocket expenses.

Do we offer bulk billing?

We do not generally offer bulk billing. For all inpatient services, there are no out-of-pocket expenses for consultations or chemotherapy treatments. The fees in our rooms attract an out-of-pocket expense, with Medicare covering 80 per cent of the cost. If possible, we appreciate payment on the day of service, and we can ensure the Medicare component of the bill is instantly reimbursed. Please feel free to discuss with our reception staff if you have a concern.

Public patients can be referred directly to the Andrew Love Cancer Centre at University Hospital, Geelong.
